We all know that feeling when the throat begins to feel tight and kind of scratchy where you know something bigger and nastier is coming up – it’s too soon to take any cold medications, but you also feel like the tides could be overturned by being proactive. My mom has been making this herbal tonic for me since I was a child. The tonic helps to relieve sore throat, boost immune system, and re-energize. Asian Pop Stars are known to drink this wellness tonic before performances and after travel. It’s ridiculously easy to make (which means a lot, coming from me). 2 ingredients + water with some heat and you’re set. I usually never follow recipes but this one is so simple yet so beneficial that I had to share!
Ginger & Brown Sugar Wellness Tonic Recipe
- 8-10 slices of peeled Ginger (use aged ginger for higher nutritional content)
- 3-6 tablespoons of Brown sugar or suit to your taste
- Water 2 liters
Start by heating the water in a pot.
Wash and scrub ginger clean.
Cut ginger into thin slices.
Put ginger slices into pot when water comes to a boil.
Let simmer for another 30 minutes.
Add the brown sugar, stir to dissolve.
Bring to boil again for a few seconds.
Pour and enjoy!
This tonic will have a spicy & zingy taste that immediately works on sore throats and clears passageways. Consume while hot, ideally post-shower and right before bed to extended the warming benefits of the tonic.
