SMELL COOL FOR THE SUMMER

Each season is special but summer has always been the one associated with everything good and fun. As a child, it meant that school was out and vacations were on the calendar. Nothing brings the summer moments closer than the perfect fragrance that can capture the citrus groves of the Mediterranean or the green breeze of a traditional tea ceremony among jasmine trees. This season, we've been very taken with nontraditional forms of fragrance, here are our picks for this summer:

Byredo Kabuki Perfume in Gypsy Water

A light scent with bergamot, lemon and pepper top notes, that give way to a refined sandalwood and vanilla base, Gypsy Water is the perfect sheer scent for summer. We were immediately taken by Byredo’s Kabuki fragrance form factor that encapsulates their crisp, outdoorsy Gypsy Water in a translucent micro-fine powder housed in an applicator that is inspired by the Kabuki brush used in traditional Japanese theater make-up. Each element from the heavy, glossy, retractable black tube to the feather soft brush head make touch-ups a delight. The unique dusting application allows for dispensing precise amounts of scent over pulse points, around the neck and behind ears. The Kabuki form factor is both functional for both touch-ups and travel, and it feels decidedly evolved.

Fornasetti Ortensia Candle

We’re new converts to the house of Fornasetti, the luxe Italian brand known for stunning collections of decor including plates and candles that feature surrealist art with a rebellious streak. Fornasetti candles eschew the motto of minimal luxury, with immediately recognizable ceramic housing that doubles as statement decor or even conversational pieces. Ortensia is named after the blue and pink ortensia flowers in the Fornasetti garden in Milan. This floral home fragrance transports guests to an Italian summer garden with notes of Ivy, Jasmine and White Rose. Surround yourself in this summer bouquet and leave the personal fragrance on the shelf. Perfect for garden parties or anytime the yearning for a botanical moment may ensue.

In Fiore Bois de Rose Baume Pour Le Corps

An utterly intoxicating body balm that works as much for the the skin as it does for the senses. This organic body balm is not only beautiful to behold but also contains a serious skin conditioning blend of jojoba seed oil, grape seed oil and Vitamin E. The texture of this balm is thick and buttery in the most luxurious way that melts into skin. The transcendent aroma is a lesson on the power of botanical aromatherapy with notes of rose flower and vetiver that is both grounding and intoxicating. You’ll be looking for excuses to use this, we recommend after showering especially post-sun exposure and swimming to best enjoy the full benefits.

Strange Invisible Perfumes Dimanche

A new discovery for our team, Strange Invisible Perfumes are different from any perfume we’ve come across. The Venice, California based perfumery uses only certified organic, wildcrafted, biodynamic and hydro-distilled essences, and each bottle is designed, decanted, bottled in their laboratory. What this means is that instead of using synthetic fragrances and commercial-grade alcohol that is in most mainstream perfumes, Strange Invisible’s fragrance notes are actually derived from the plants. It’s a labor intensive and more costly process (even their alcohol is a custom distilled cognac made from non-gmo, pesticide-free grapes), but the result is worth it. Dimanche is our summer pick from this line that really does not have any duds. The fragrance is an homage to leisurely Sunday lunches in Paris with notes of iris, rose, honey, and amber. There is no better way to spend a perfect summer weekend. Because there are no artificial fragrances, the scent adapts to each person’s unique skin chemistry ensuring your scent is going to be one-of-a-kind. This is the way perfume making should be done.

Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur Body & Hair Oil

A category bending hair mist/body oil from one of our favorite French fragrance houses. The Musc Ravageur scent is complex: aggressively dominant yet dynamic and mysterious with notes of bergamot, tangerine that are quintessential with Mediterranean summers set against the deeper amber and musk backdrops. Fresh top notes, sensual depths – the perfect balance. The misting is intended to cover the wearer with the scent from the hair to the legs in an encompassing but not aggressive way. The fragrance is genderless and dries down to the perfect power that draws in surrounding neighbors for a closer inspection. Perfect for day or evening celebrations.

The Strange Invisible sounds amazing. How long is the wear time? I’m concerned about “natural” not having the staying power. Thanks!

    • Strange Invisible doesn’t use synthetic fragrances or chemicals that artificially extend wear time, these synthetics are also the culprits that cause people to experience headaches and nausea after extended wear so we’re fans of formulas without them. It does mean wear time and sillage may not be as intense but the Strange Invisible is fairly decent. If you want full day wear, maybe touch up in the afternoon and you’re set. You can also douse since the fragrances are not chemically-altered so the smell never gets obnoxious.

Yes to In Fiore, their rose balm is the best. Some of their other stuff can smell way too.. herbal and pungent if that makes sense but the rose balm is perfect.

    • Yes rose and also their jasmine ones are perfection.

Bloody hell David Gandy can get it.
